Environment

In the area of rational nature management, our goal is to completely prevent accidents from our activity from exploration and planning to operations and eventual closure that may have a negative impact on the environment of our gold production. We strive to constantly improve production processes and equipment in order to meet our goals. We aim to limit our environmental impacts through the efficient use of natural resources. Tanganyika Gold S.A. is committed to the highest standards of environmental management and performance.

Responsible environmental stewardship is an important aspect of acquiring and maintaining our license to operate.

Tanganyika Gold S.A. is committed to best practices in environmental management for all aspects of its operations. Our approach to improving environmental performance is guided by our Environmental and Sustainability Policy, which promotes the development and implementation of effective systems to minimize risks to health, safety and the environment and to design, operate and close our facilities in compliance with international guidelines and local regulations.

Tanganyika Gold S.A’s Environmental and Sustainability Policy requires that all mine facilities are designed, constructed, operated and closed in compliance with applicable local laws and regulations, and meet internal or appropriate international guidelines.

Environmental awareness programs are conducted periodically with the intention of ensuring that all employees understand their accountability for environmental protection in the workplace.

We proactively seek to prevent pollution while addressing opportunities to improve the efficiency with which we make use of the natural resources. Environmental stewardship includes:

— Responsible and efficient water management

— Energy efficiency

— Mitigating our impact on  Land use and biodiversity

— Responsible stewardship of the materials we use

— Reducing air quality emissions

—  Integration of environmental and social aspects into gradual closure of mines

We strive to uphold the highest environmental standards and comply with all applicable legislation governing the use of resources, responsible waste management, conservation of biodiversity, as well as closure and post-mining land use in terms of our Environmental policy.

Water is a vital commodity in the processing of our ore. We are mindful of the fact that water has a number of potential uses and a range of potential users. Without careful management, mining can have a negative impact on water quality. We’re using less water, recycling and purifying the water we use. Water is a key resource for our industry and an important resource in our work to protect the environment. The method of water circulation is used in all operations using water in our enterprise. The main source of recycle and reuse water is the return of water from tailings dams and leach tanks to our process circuits. All potentially contaminated water is retained on-site and is only discharged to the environment once it meets stringent  standards, hereinafter this water can used for many agricultural and recreational purposes.

That allows us to improve the environmental part of the work of our company, which is the central goal of our company’s environmental policy.

Mining is an energy intensive industry. The most meaningful way to track and manage energy performance at Tanganyika Gold S.A. is by measuring energy intensity per tons processed, because rate of production changes constantly, thus one of the best parameters to track is how much energy is needed to process a tons of material. which gives us the opportunity to track with  how efficiently we are processing material. Energy used at our operations is principally in the form of fuel which we generated on-site. Diesel consumption being the primary source.

Tanganyika Gold S.A.  follow the development of more energy-efficient products and services, and we will avail ourselves of these products and services as opportunity allows. We assess options for the development of renewable resources or cleaner energy sources on ours mine.

In all cases, we seek to design, construct, operate and close our operations in ways that minimize the risks to biodiversity and limit our environmental impact. We are also responsible for biodiversity management, which takes care of fauna and flora living in and around our operations.

After disturbance, we reclaim the disturbed areas as quickly as possible. Where possible, we execute reclamation concurrent with mine operations.

But, beyond the environmental aspects of being a responsible land steward, we also aim to leave communities with a self-sufficient and self-sustaining legacy, through socio-economic develop-ment that meets the needs of the people living near the operations

Mines can operate for many decades, a mine is temporary and will eventually close.

Closed sites means making them as environmentally productive as possible post mining. It is not possible to restore a site to what it was prior to mining, but it is possible to establish a healthy, thriving ecosystem and productive land use after reclamation is completed. This is the goal for all of our sites.

All of our operations have closure plans in place. These plans are reviewed to ensure that they are current and reflect any changes. Our closure plans focus on the social and environmental aspects of closure.

While maintaining the infrastructure for use in communities, we demonstrate our transparency by consulting with stakeholders as early as possible the closure process.
